Twindig Housing Market Index (HMI)

Published 9th of January, 2021

Twindig Housing Market Index rose by 2.5% to 90.3 as the housing market year kicked off with good news. Mortgage approvals at their highest level since before the start of the Credit Crunch. The Halifax House Price Index finishing 2020 at an all-time high. Barratt Developments (one of the UK’s biggest housebuilders) reporting that not only had 2020 ended well, but that they have also had a strong start to 2021. Investor confidence in the UK housing market, therefore, started 2021 with a spring in its step. Next week housebuilders Bovis, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey will report their most recent trading performance and we expect their tone to be similar to Barratt's. RICS, (the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) will also provide an update on the housing market next week.
